INTRODUCTION

This book is for Christians and those who want to learn more about Christianity.  It is for those who want to know how Christians can live successfully in a growing global community of many religions.  The idea is simple.

  Be a confident Christian.

L E T the Holy Spirit change people's hearts.

Live in mutual respect with people of other faiths, so the world may thrive in peace.  Respect that their ways are right for them now.  Expect that God will change their hearts and minds in God’s way and in God’s time in the future.

Let your light so shine, that others may see how valuable in your life is your relationship with Jesus Christ.

As for converting people to Christianity and winning souls to Christ, let God do it.  Let the Holy Spirit change people’s hearts.

This book is intended as a path to lead Christians to peace with each other and other people.  Global peace is more necessary now, for people around the world, than ever before.  By living with mutual respect in a world of many religions and ways of life, Christians can lead the world to peace.  This book can help show you how.

It has taken many years to develop the understanding presented in this book, including the view of the world as one global community living in necessary peace.  The peace is necessary to preserve a strong global economy from which nearly all people in the world, directly or indirectly, gain their livelihood.

The peace is necessary, because the global computer, communications and transportation networks, such as the Internet, that lace the world together into the global economy and make it work, cannot be broken by war.  Therefore the people of the world ban war and demand the necessary peace.  As I have put it, to describe why the peace is necessary,

“We all eat from the same bowl
        (the global economy).
We cannot let anyone break the bowl,
 or we all starve.”

That means Christians must learn to get along with other people in the world, including followers of other religions, and still carry out the Great Commission.  How do Christians do that and thrive in the global community?

The answer given here begins with being a confident Christian, and with confident Christians living their faith passionately.  These Christians live their faith humbly and well.  Instead of disliking people of other beliefs, and trying to force them to convert to Christianity, these Christians let their light so shine, that the Holy Spirit can use their example to change people’s hearts.  Some call this approach relational evangelism, teaching other people Christianity by example in one’s relationships with them, instead of confrontational evangelism demanding conversion.

The first three fourths of the book are devoted to how to be a confident Christian, which is the first step on the road to reconciliation and peace. Much of the book is about the simple truths of Christianity which help people live successfully by living their faith, humbly, thoroughly, passionately and well as a confident Christian.  That is what many people study.

Christians study the book to be regrounded in their faith.  Non-Christians study it to learn in simple terms about Christianity, and how it would be important in their lives.

A Christian who is confident of his or her Christianity is more likely to work for peace.  A confident Christian is less likely to try to force someone else to convert to Christianity to remove secret doubts and “prove” that Christianity is right.  The confident Christian already knows it is right, has experienced its truth in daily life and has no need to convert other people to prove it to himself or herself.

The book then focuses on how to live in peace as a Christian.  Parts of the book show what to do and what not to do to live, as a faithful Christian, in peace with other people. It presents what the confident, passionate Christian can do to establish and preserve world peace, and participate fully in a strong world economy and global community.

In a way the book is a description of how to be a good Christian neighbor in the world, and what that means for Christianity in the new millennium.  The answers are found in the Bible, which is a reliable guide to successful life in the new global community.

Enjoy what the Creator has given you out of his grace.  Enjoy the beauty and power of the gift of your full life to live in the new millennium.  Enjoy the gift of being able to live it fully with your Savior, guide, and loving friend, Jesus Christ.

BELIEVE

 Believe in your Christianity passionately.

Believe it is true for certain.

Believe in wholeness
(that they may be one as we are one. John 17: 22).

Believe in your fulfillment as a whole person.

Believe Jesus Christ loves you,
and wants you to succeed in life
(have life and have it to the full, John 10: 10).

Believe what seems real to you.  Believe it wholeheartedly. Use your Christianity to guide your responses to what life brings you.  Devote your life to Jesus Christ, and experience your life blossoming into harmony with all around you and your fulfillment as a whole person.  Your religion will help you be all you can be.  God created you that way.  Your successful life begins with faith.

Believe in the goodness of God.

Believe in your fulfillment as a whole person.

Believe in Jesus Christ as your inner friend by the power of the Holy Spirit.

He will lovingly guide you, through prayer and the Spirit, to full life, if you will listen to him, trust him and follow him.

FAITH

 The Importance Of Faith

Why is faith important?  It is simple.  We cannot do everything ourselves.  We need our faith in God to get us through.  Many think they do not need faith, but they often lead partial, unfulfilled, discordant, off balance, lopsided, out-of-control lives.  Their lives are filled with needless, self-caused suffering.  Faith keeps you on track in the midst of the whirlwind of life.  When life gets hard, faith is the foundation for the hope that gets you through.  Faith helps you survive and flourish.

Faith is important to successful life.  Why did God choose Abraham to build through his sons, many great nations?  The answer is Faith!   The one quality Abraham had was his faith.  It was Abraham's unshakable faith in God.  God knew Abraham's descendants would need strong faith to succeed.  Abraham provided the example to all later generations of the prime importance of faith in God.

This theme of the primary importance of faith is echoed throughout the Bible.  The Ten Commandments begin with faith in the one God.

“You shall have no other Gods before me.”
Exodus 20: 3

“Of all the commandments, which is the most important?
“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one’.  Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”
Mark 12:28-31

There are different kinds of faith.  Each benefits you in a way you need at various times:

Saving Faith
Guiding Faith
Comforting Faith
Forgiving Faith
Reconciling Faith
Renewing Faith
Loving Faith

Your capacity for faith lets you know that God loves you.
As an example of how faith works, reconciling faith helps you get your hurt, angry self out of the way, so you can become a valuable participant in life again, and rebuild a broken relationship.  This is the loving leadership of reconciling faith.

Faith in Jesus Christ will get you through to full life as a whole person, and to living in the love of the Lord for ever.

 Believe In God’s World

God created the world to work in certain ways and not in others.  All is not randomness.  It does make a difference what you do in your life.

It does make a difference whether you live your life God’s way or some other way.  The other ways lead to sin, suffering and death.  God’s way leads to full life as a whole person.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”  Romans 8:28.  This is God’s harmony for your life and it is good.  Open your heart to him, love him as he loves you, and help fulfill his purpose by being all you can be.  You will need God’s help to do it, but the result will be a life-long, precious friendship that guides you to full life, which results in you living your part in God's purpose.

God created you to respond to the circumstances in your life in ways that lead to your fulfillment as a whole person.  When you do that, you live the way God created you to live, and you help bring about the Kingdom of God.  You help carry out God’s plan for the universe.  You do your part for all of existence.  Your reward is a full life as a whole person in this life (including your relationships with God, with yourself, your family, other people and all of existence) and living in the love of the Lord forever.  Living God’s way is precious to you.

 Believe In God’s Way

God’s way is your way.  God wants you to succeed in life.  God created you to succeed in life. God loves you and will show you the way to full life, if you will listen and follow his way.

God’s way is not difficult.  It is comfortable, because it is right.  You were born to live that way.  Jesus said, “For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  Matthew 11: 30.  Of course it is!  When you are living in harmony with all around you as you were created to live, it is right, easy and light.  The reward of people who live that way is full life.  Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.” John 10:10.

 Believe In Righteousness

Righteousness is simply living rightly as God created you to live.  It is not living like an obedient, unthinking slave.  It is living in freedom and choosing the right response to every aspect of life, not because it is commanded, but because it is right for you.  It leads to full life for you.  God’s way is the right way.

The Lord said to old Abram in a vision. “Look up into the heavens and count the stars - if indeed you can count them ... So shall your offspring be.”  Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness. Genesis 15: 5-6.

Righteousness means believing God.  It begins there.  Today, many people around the world are beneficiaries of the promise by God to faithful Abraham, as God later named him, the “father of many nations”. Genesis 17: 5.

Have faith.  The righteous live by faith.
 Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1: 17

 Believe In God’s Commands

God knows something about the people he created.  They do not always choose the righteous alternative.  Sometimes they are weak or distracted, or rush headlong into sin.  They do not always know what is the right thing to do.  God’s solution is to tell them what is the right way, but to let them decide for themselves what they will do.  More accurately, God respects each person’s free will, the necessity to decide for himself or herself.  Therefore God tells people what attitudes and values to have when they make decisions, so they will make righteous decisions.  These are God’s teachings that have the force of right.  They are called God’s commands.  They have been lovingly given to us to help us decide to live rightly, as God created us to live.

Jesus said, “If you love me, you will obey what I command.” John 14: 15.

Believe In God’s  Love And Friendship

“If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching.  My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”  John 14: 23.  This is a precious friendship offered to all people by God.

 Believe In God’s Help

God helps us learn how to live rightly and defeat sin.  God helps us to keep balance and harmony in our lives, so we will live righteously and fully.  God helps us by giving us an example of how to live successfully.

In India they train a small, young elephant how to work and live successfully, not by giving him a book, or sending him to school, but by example.  They chain the little elephant to a big elephant.  Eventually, after much useless pulling and rebellion, the little elephant learns to do what the big elephant does.

Jesus Christ is our big elephant.  He is one of God’s gifts to help us live right.  We can understand our relationship to God by following the life of Jesus.  He is our teacher and perfect example.  When we fall, he is merciful, forgives the truly repentant, and compassionately helps us up to full life again.

When Jesus was physically on earth, he could not be everywhere, with everyone at once, but Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would be.  “If you love me you will obey what I command.  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever - the Spirit of Truth.” John 14: 15-17.  “All this I have spoken while still with you.  But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14: 25-26.  “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.  But when he, the Spirit of Truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.” John 16: 12-13.

 Believe In The Trinity

Christians believe in the Trinity, God in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  It is all God.  We experience God in different ways.  God the Father is the awesome creator of the universe, so big we cannot understand him, so he came to earth as a human, Jesus Christ, to be our big elephant, to show us in human terms how to relate to him and how to live successfully.  He knew we needed him to live successfully as whole persons.  Yet he could not be everywhere at once as a human, so he left the earth physically and gave us God the Holy Spirit, which we can experience inside each of us as inner friendship with Jesus Christ.  Jesus Christ is our inner, spiritual friend and guide to full life through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Jesus reminds us of what he taught, and guides us into all truth.  Inner friendship with Jesus Christ through prayer and the power of the Holy Spirit is each Christian’s loving guide to full life as a whole person.

 Believe In Inner Friendship

There are so many new choices to make, inner friendship with Jesus is an especially needed blessing for you today.  Receive spiritual guidance for your life from your inner friend, Jesus Christ, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

When you do something you are not sure about, or you are thinking about doing it, check how you feel inside, spiritually about it.  Do you feel calm and peaceful about it?  Do you feel you are in harmony with all around you?  Do you feel you are calmly in the center of God’s harmony for your life?  If you do, your inner friend is telling you it is right for you.  Do it.  Do it humbly and righteously, but do it.

However, if you feel anxious about it, your inner friend may be telling you there is something wrong.  You may want to think it over more, before you commit to doing it.

The worse the feeling, the farther away it is from what you should be doing to achieve fulfillment as a whole person, as God created you to live.  If it is only a little off, you will feel disharmony, then as it is farther away you will feel anxiety, then farther away, fear, terror and finally panic, if you are in immediate danger.

Listen to these various messages.  They are there for a reason.  Listen to your inner friend.  He will save you from sin and needless suffering in your life.   Your inner friend, Jesus Christ, uses this method, as well as others, to communicate guidance to you, if you will listen.  When you do, you will learn to trust this guidance.  You will learn to trust Jesus in your life, now, today.

When you realize how accurate, loving and full of grace his guidance is, you will love your inner friend for loving you and taking care of you. Pray, ask for guidance, and be alert to the inner feelings of answered prayer.  This is your personal experience with the Living Lord.  What a blessing is inner friendship with Jesus Christ.  What a friend we have in Jesus.
